Summer is a great time to show off your pearls. However, before you showcase them this summer, here are a few things to keep in mind in order to keep them in flawless condition.
Pearls should always be the last thing you put on when getting ready, perfumes and hairspray can harm the lustre of pearls and cause them to loose their impeccable shine. So, always apply perfume and hairspray before your jewellery.
Pearl wearers should also be cautious of perspiration as it can effect the pearls original shine. To keep pearls looking new they should be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth after you take them off and then placed in a cotton box.
Pearl strands are strung on a silk thread which also needs proper care in order to maintain its longevity. Things that can effect the silk thread and should be avoided while wearing pearls are: swimming and showering as well as applying sunscreen or lotion. The integrity of the thread can be compromised, causing build up and eventually ruin the strand. If your pearl strand does start to collect build up you can soak them in clean water and then left to air dry fully before putting them away.
